A DOG WAS SUBMERGED IN A TRUCK – WHAT THIS POLICE OFFICER DID WAS INSPIRATIONAL!
On June 7, Carver Police officers responded to South Meadow Village to a report of a vehicle completely submerged in approximately eight feet of water. When Officers Melo and Harriman arrived on the scene they discovered a 2004 Toyota Tacoma pickup truck completely under water.
Debra Titus, the driver, told the officers that she had narrowly escaped with her own life when her pickup truck plunged into a lake and that one dog, Stitch, was able to swim out with her, but her little Chihuahua, Moochie, was trapped and still underwater.
She had called the Carver Police Department and waited for them to arrive, feeling totally helpless.
Lucky for Debra the right officer responded to her call.
Because that’s when officer David Harriman, an avid dog lover himself, removed his gun belt and shoes giving them to officer Melo and dove into the murky water.
According to officer Harriman, it wasn’t easy to do, but he was able to get the door of the truck open, and then sifting through some stuff in the back, he found Moochie.
When Harriman brought the little pup out of the water he was unconscious and wasn’t moving, but officer Harriman was able revive him by giving him “a little squeeze.”
Officer Harriman had to get back to work almost as soon as he got out of the water, but Carver Fire and Carver EMS had responded to assist and the brave officer was able to returned later to check on little Moochie.
Moochie was returned to Debra in good health, though understandably, a little frightened.
An hour later, when the officers were able to retun to the scene Harriman said that, “he looked like a little fluffball,”and “We’d all do it. I know [dogs are] something that’s important to us.”
Humbly, Harriman explained his inspirational actions to the Boston Herald saying simply, “We were told a dog was still in it, so I did what I felt I should do – go in and get the dog.”
